Time To Stand Up and Be A Soldier

Recently I featured a young woman on my business blog by the name of Missy Lynn (check it out here Inspiring through Beauty and Structure with Missy Lynn). I have decided to speak about her again on my personal to show how she has inspired me to do more and strive to get better not only in business but in my personal life.

First of all I would like to say that this is the Beautiful Missy Lynn once again

I met Missy Lynn while stationed in California in 2011. I am really good friends with her younger sister so of course I would be exposed to everything that she is doing. So far Missy has inspired me in so many ways. She is a focused and driven individual. I have watched her grow in her career. From Youtube to Celebrity clients she is building her brand and getting her name out there. Recently she did Lashontae (Tae) Heckard, when I asked about her experience this is what she said:

What made you want to do Lashontae (Tae) Heckard’s Makeup?
I always thought she was pretty! I first saw her on ATL and I loved her attitude towards T.I. And from then every time I would see her on T.V. or in online photos..I would say dang she’s sooo pretty! It wasn’t until last year that I found out that she served in the Army. I was so shocked. Not Really shocked but I was happy to see someone who was once in the same career that I’m in now (military), follow her dreams and becoming an actress. I wanted to know more about how she made the transition from military back to civilian life, so my mission was to one day do her makeup. When the opportunity presented itself..I took it! LOL!

How did you contact her to do her makeup?

What was your first impression of her?
My exact words were, after hanging up the phone, “DANGGG she sound so chill and cool”.

What was your experience like with meeting her?
Tae was so chill, so cool.. kinda felt like I was with a big sister/cousin away from home–might I add we’re both from the South. She instantly made me feel comfortable..even on our first phone conversation. We talked about the military life for a while, which was cool to be around someone who understood the military life. Once it was time to start her makeup..I was nervous, but she told me to do WHATEVER I WANTED..and it made me LOVE her a little bit MORE! She was just sooo chill, and she didn’t look in the mirror a million times- She just let me do my thing. She said “i’ll see it when you’re done”..Meanwhile..she noticed the little habits I have..like me constantly biting my lip as I applied her makeup..and how my nostrils flared. She had me cracking up when she called me out on it..lol, which again made me feel SUPER comfortable.

Missy Lynn and Lashontae (Tae) Heckard

Speaking of Lashontae (Tae) Heckard she is also recently become one of my inspirations she is a beautiful young woman, about a year ago I found out that she is an Army Veteran I went crazy with. HOOAH!!! She is such a strong woman. I am excited to learn more about her and I am every day. Just a little background on Tae Heckard she was born in Seoul, South Korea (OMG ya’ll know I love to shop in Korea and the FOOD). She is a model and actress, she has a BANGING BODY (the reason why I recently joined Lifetime Fitness, yes gotta get my body right lol ) Just in case you guys don’t believe me see for your self

lashontae 13b3c3c8ef1011e2a9e622000a1fba5e_7

YES HUNTY!!! You better work!!!!

The biggest thing that she has done that truly made me love her was her military career. I recently read that she did served 4 years on Active Duty ( Just like me lol) She seems like a down to earth chick. In uniform, every female soldier knows how hard it is to keep that hair in REGULATION but she does it well!

Lashontae1Even on duty as you can tell lolLashontae2

Makes me love her even more.

Recently I asked her about her experience with Missy Lynn

image-4 image-1

(Please excuse Sade texting me in the middle of my conversation) lol

After learning and understanding about both these young women I started to think “Well what am I doing wrong?” They have inspired me to get off my butt and strive for my dreams.

Being and Army Veteran I am learning more about the opportunities that are in my reach I just need to get up off my butt and grab them. Seeing these two doing what they love it inspired me to not settle for less than what I want. In the words of Ace Hood “Hustle  Hustle HARD”

I would like to Salute and Thank both Missy Lynn and Lashontae (Tae) Heckard for inspiring me to  get out there and follow my dreams.

Some times in life the most unexpected people change your life in the most unexpected ways – I Am Justice Mayrie

These two young women have done that. I would love to do a feature on Lashontae (Tae) Heckard on Inspire Empower Educate hint hint lol

I love you all and stay tuned I have a lot of things going on and a lot of things to come.

My Top 10 Universities for African Americans

So I decided to do this blog for two reasons, one is because during the summer this when sophomores going into their junior year in high school should really be looking into schools, and two because a lot of children in my family are in this age bracket. I want them to know that there are more than just the schools in their areas that have great opportunities.

Disclaimer: 90% of these schools are Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) because I feel that coming straight from high school into college you should get a college experience, a true college experience. Also, two of these schools I actually attended and that is why they made the list. (Yes I am bias) lol

Below you will find not only the school but what the school has to offer, what you need to be accepted and the Tuition/ Fees for each school. I will also add the social aspects for each school so Mascots and much more will be included. Please share this with friends and family thank you!!!

#7 Langston University

The school was founded in 1897 and was known as the Oklahoma Colored Agricultural and Normal University. Langston University was created as a result of the second Morrill Act in 1890. The law required states with land-grant colleges (such as Oklahoma State University, then Oklahoma A&M) to either admit African-Americans, or provide an alternative school for them to attend as a condition of receiving federal funds.[1] Langston University is named for John Mercer Langston (1829–1897), civil rights pioneer, first African American member of Congress from Virginia, founder of the Howard University Law School, and American consul-general to Haiti.
Through the years Langston University has developed slowly but surely. Some of the most serious problems have been political influences, financial stress, and lack of adequate space and equipment. During the 1960s the campus underwent a complete makeover. New buildings appeared, and additions were made to the library and auditorium. Thus, despite the problems, Langston has braved the storms and produced outstanding graduates. Langston alumni are scattered throughout the nation and are serving humanity with pride. Poet Melvin B. Tolson taught at Langston from 1947 until 1964. Tolson was portrayed by Denzel Washington in the film The Great Debaters. Langston University is located in Oklahoma, OK, Tulsa, OK, and Langston, OK.

#6 Hampton University

In 1863, using government funds to continue the work started by Mary Peake, General Butler founded the Butler School for Negro children, where students were taught reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, and grammar, as well as various housekeeping skills. Throughout the 1880s and 1890s, Hampton Normal School saw a dramatic increase in enrollment and educational offerings, which created a need not only for additional dormitory space, but also for auxiliary facilities. The new trade school would offer instruction in farming, carpentry, harnessmaking, printing, tailoring, clocksmithing, blacksmithing, painting, and wheelwrighting. Enhancing Hampton’s curriculum to meet the stringent requirements of college level accreditation was the focus during the late 1900s and throughout the 1920s. Many new programs were added and the requirements for existing courses were raised to meet the new standard Hampton placed upon itself.  In 1984, after a nine-month study of Hampton Institute’s rapid growth and development in quality of students, faculty and academic offerings, the recommendation was made to change the name to Hampton University. Hampton University is located in Hampton, VA.

In 1867, two years after the Civil War ended, Augusta Theological Institute was established in the basement of Springfield Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga. Founded in 1787, Springfield Baptist is the oldest independent African American church in the United States. In 1879, Augusta Institute was invited by The Rev. Frank Quarles to move to the basement of Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta and changed its name to Atlanta Baptist Seminary. The campus encompasses a Civil War historic site, a gift of John D. Rockefeller, where Confederate soldiers staged a determined resistance to Union forces during William Tecumseh Sherman’s famous siege of Atlanta in 1864. In 1897, Atlanta Baptist Seminary became Atlanta Baptist College during the administration of Dr. George Sale, a Canadian who served as the third and youngest president from 1890 to 1906. Atlanta Baptist College, already a leader in preparing African Americans for teaching and the ministry, expanded its curriculum and established the tradition of educating leaders for all areas of American life. In addition to attracting a large number of talented faculty and administrators, Hope contributed much to the institution we know today. And out #1 school which should be no surprise is

#1 Howard University

Shortly after the end of the Civil War, members of The First Congregational Society of Washington considered establishing a theological seminary for the education of African-American clergymen. Within a few weeks, the project expanded to include a provision for establishing a university. Within two years, the University consisted of the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Medicine. The new institution was named for General Oliver Otis Howard, a Civil War hero, who was both the founder of the University and, at the time, Commissioner of the Freedmen’s Bureau. Howard later served as President of the university from 1869–74. Congress chartered Howard on March 2, 1867, and much of its early funding came from endowment, private benefaction, and tuition. An annual congressional appropriation administered by the U.S. Department of Education funds Howard University and Howard University Hospital. Howard Hall was renovated and made a dormitory for girls; many improvements were made on campus; J. Stanley Durkee, Howard’s last white president, was appointed in 1918. Howard University has played an important role in American history and the Civil Rights Movement on a number of occasions. Alain Locke, Chair of the Department of Philosophy and first African American Rhodes Scholar, authored The New Negro, which helped to usher in the Harlem Renaissance. Ralph Bunche, the first Nobel Peace Prize winner of African descent, served as chair of the Department of Political Science. Beginning in 1942, Howard University students pioneered the “stool-sitting” technique, which was to play a prominent role in the later civil rights movement. By January, 1943, students had begun to organize regular sit-ins and pickets at cigar stores and cafeterias around Washington, D.C. which refused to serve them because of their race. These protests continued until the administration asked the students to stop in the Fall of 1944. Stokely Carmichael, also known as Kwame Toure, a student in the Department of Philosophy and the Howard University School of Divinity coined the term “Black Power” and worked in Lowndes County, Alabama as a voting rights activist. Historian Rayford Logan served as chair of the Department of History. E. Franklin Frazier served as chair of the Department of Sociology. Sterling Allen Brown served as chair of the Department of English. In 1975 the historic Freedman’s Hospital closed after 112 years of use as Howard University College of Medicine’s primary teaching hospital. Howard University Hospital opened that same year and continues to be used as Howard University College of Medicine’s primary teaching hospital with service to the surrounding community. In 1989, Howard gained national attention when students rose up in protest against the appointment of then-Republican National Committee Chairman Lee Atwater as a new member of the university’s Board of Trustees. Student activists disrupted Howard’s 122nd anniversary celebrations, and eventually occupied the university’s Administration building. Within days, both Atwater and Howard’s President, James E. Cheek, resigned. In April 2007 the head of the faculty senate called for the ouster of Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert, saying that the school was in a state of crisis and it was time to end “an intolerable condition of incompetence and dysfunction at the highest level.” This came on the heels of several criticisms of Howard University and its management. The following month, Swygert announced that he would retire in June 2008. The university announced in May 2008 that Sidney Ribeau of Bowling Green State University would succeed Swygert as president. Ribeau appointed a Presidential Commission on Academic Renewal to conduct a year-long self-evaluation that resulted in reducing or closing 20 out of 171 academic programs. For example, they proposed closing the undergraduate philosophy major and African studies major. Six years later, in 2013, university insiders again alleged that the university was in crisis. In April, the vice chairwoman of the university’s board of trustees wrote a letter to her colleagues harshly criticizing the university’s president and calling for a vote of no confidence; her letter was subsequently obtained by the media where it drew national headline. Two months later, the university’s Council of Deans alleged that “fiscal mismanagement is doing irreparable harm”, blaming the university’s senior vice president for administration, chief financial officer and treasurer and asking for his dismissal.

These are the Top 10 schools that I have chosen. I hope that you enjoyed this and that it was informative. Please come back in 2 weeks to few the Top 10 schools that which will not consist of any HBCUs. I feel that will only be far because not all African American teens want to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Love you all and see you in 2 weeks.

Life is the most exciting opportunity we have. But we have one shot. You graduate from college once, and that’s it. You’re going out of that nest. And you have to find that courage that’s deep, deep, deep in there. Every step of the way.

Whewwwwwww Gotta blow the dusty off of I Am Justice Mayrie I haven’t been here in a minute. Working on this degree ya’ll know im PHD bound!!! Plus with the new Blog Inspire Empower Educate (Check it out if you haven’t) things have been crazy over here. Not to mention I have 30 days to find a new apartment!!!! #THESTRUGGLE is real lol but I wanted to come thru and show some love and talk about my sumer time love!!!! With music that is lol

Here are my tops that will be played all summer long in Red Ridinghood first up is

K. Michelle V.S.O.P

“Got yo Henny chillin’ on ice” Ok I will admit that I did not like the song at first but when I seen the video I was like AYEEEEEE Lol ya’ll know im ratchet some of the times lol but the line that really got me in this song was “He supposed to be with you , That what everybody gon’ tell me, But I can’t really count on what everybody gon’ tell me, She ain’t seen her baby in a couple days, And I’m looking at my baby right up in his face” I was thats right K you better tell them mind they business lol Alot of times Women are in bad relationships and want you to be in one too. Needless to say this will be on repeat in Red this summer. If you feeling a guy this should be one for the iPod, iPhone, iPad or I guess you can play on your Droid if it dont freeze LOL

Next up Im going to stay on some Ratchet shit lol

Wale Clappers

“Shawty got a BIG OLE BUTT OH YEAHHHHHH” Definitely did not expect this from Wale to be this ratchet on a track but when this song comes on feel like Pop That by French Montana just came on lol. I know when people are in the car next to me they be like “Is her car a club” cause I act a fool LMAO plus with this RATCHET sew in my sister about to hook me up with next month imma really be acting a fool lol. This will definitely be another song that will be played if you are ever in the car with me

Still ratchet with this next track

Don Trip Conflicted

Many people would not think that I like this song but songs like this are my secret LOVE lol this reminds me alot of Nasty Song by Lil Ru. It just makes you love it especially with lines like “I know I just smack her on her ass and her panties hit the floor” LMAO as soon as I heard that line I hit it with the AYEEEE and started the song all over again lol I don’t know why but I really like this song and I play it at full blast in the house and in the car lol. If you don’t know about him get into him he has a few other tracks that I like but this is by far my favorite.

The next song is not as ratchet but it can be lol

Here is another one by Wale Bad (Remix Featuring Rihanna)

Now  I LOVE the original version but this one takes the cake “Cause I’ve had some issue, I wont commit, not having it” lol In the beginning of the song when she lets out the sly “Cause I’ve had some issues” I know every chick got that feeling in their hearts when its that one guy that you know really likes you but you aren’t in the place to commit to them, that feeling lol That’s hard feeling and it takes a big girl in her big girl panties to tell him the real deal LOL The first part that I really like in this song is the sly release of that famous line, secondly is “(Cause I’ve had some issues) Yeah and I noticed it” Men know when  a female is broken or damaged  and real men will stay around and try to help her but a FUCK NIGGA will take advantage of that and damage her more. (Thats for another blog) The last part that I really liked was the last line of the second verse when he says “Forget it, all these bad bitches always unapologetic” I mean its true in some cases but im sure he was just referring to Rihanna’s album (which is my shit!!!) lol If you hear this coming down your Chi Town block at its loudest volume you know who it is LOL

This is my last Ratchet song lol

Rihanna Pour It Up (Remix Featuring Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Juicy J, and T.I)

ANYTHING with JEEZY in it I automatically get my hoodrat face on LOL This isn’t in big rotation in my iPhone right now but it still gets its air time. Jeezy and T.I really made this remix everything and a great nail job LOL They gave me all kinds of life in this song Jeezy said “These bitch niggas be actin’ up, These hoes niggas be actin’ foul, They’ll grind with you, they’ll shine with you, Be pointin’ fingers off at your trial” WATCH who you let in your circle they snitching out here in these streets lol IJS its the true but thats for another blog as well. Moving on to T.I. snapping on his first line!!!! “I catch a case and I go to jail (and I still got mo money)” T.I. really didn’t need to say anything else after that, he shut it all the way down. This still gets a slight rotation when he first came out it got much more play than it does now.

OK now that I’m over my ratchetness I can give you guys some of my true love songs lol

Tamar Braxton The One

This song gave me all kinds of life when I first heard it I was back in the 90’s with the overalls and sneakers kicking it to some Biggie real talk. I LOVE IT.  Kind of fell to the bad but still a good riding down lake shore drive, windows down, breeze from the lake blowing across my face song. Its just a simple love song walking the lake front with your boo (wait why do I like this song with my single lonely ass lol) naw but for real it s a nice breezy summer time song. I love the cover she picked for this album gives it more summer time feeling. When she says “I don’t want nobody else, Baby all I need is you”  YESSSSSSSS Thats how your suppose to feel about your mate. Thats all I need to say this song is how your suppose to feel about love and the person you share it with (Again why does my lonely ass like this song) lol j/k

Well now that I have given you guys my SUMMER TIME LOVE (Music Edition) I can officially say I have dusted off I Am Justice Mayrie LOVE you guys and I promise ill try to post on here more lol I promise pinky swear lol
